We recommend lighting the candle and letting it burn for 2.5 hours the very first time. This is crucial, since soy wax has a "memory" and will tunnel if the melt pool isn't given the chance to liquefy completely during each burn. Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Our candles are made with 100% American grown soy wax. Two cotton wicks are included to ensure a great scent throw and controlled burn. We use a blend of essential oils and non-toxic fragrance oils. We're proud to be paraben, phthalate, formaldehyde, and carcinogen-free.
All sales of Anvil Candles are final. However, we understand mistakes occur during shipping, and we'll happily replace any broken or defective merchandise. Just email our customer service with a picture of any damage and we'll happily send you a replacement of the same item(s).
After the candle's last burn, there will be a small amount of wax in the bottom of the jar. Make sure the candle is extinguished and cool enough to safely handle. Pour out remaining wax into a waste bin and pack a handful of paper towels into the jar. Give it a few spins to release the wick tabs and clear the jar of all excess wax. Hand wash only and use however you like. Jar is not safe for the microwave, oven, or dishwasher.
Make sure the wick is always trimmed to 1/4". If you notice the wick is "flowering", just extinguish the candle with the included metal lid and use a wick trimmer to remove the excess wick. If you don't have a wick trimmer, a pinch of the burned wick with a disposable napkin between the thumb and forefinger will do the trick. Relight and enjoy!
Yes — with a few precautions. Our candles are made with 100% soy wax and non-toxic fragrance oils, free of phthalates, parabens, and formaldehyde, which makes them a much safer choice than paraffin candles around pets. That said, we always recommend burning candles in a well-ventilated space and keeping them out of reach of curious animals. Never leave a burning candle unattended with pets in the room.

Soy wax is derived from soybeans — a natural, renewable resource — whereas paraffin is a petroleum byproduct. Soy wax burns cleaner, producing significantly less soot and no toxic byproducts. It also burns cooler and slower, which means your candle lasts longer. And because soy has a lower melting point, it holds and throws fragrance more effectively, giving you a richer scent experience from the first burn to the last.
Anvil Candles was founded as a tribute to our blacksmithing ancestry. A member of our family operated a blacksmith shop that did work for Henry Ford himself — a legacy that lives on today in the Henry Ford Museum. The anvil is one of the oldest symbols of craft and transformation: raw material shaped by skill, heat, and intention into something lasting. That's exactly what we try to do with every candle we pour.
Yes — new fragrances are developed seasonally. We take our time with each one, testing and refining until the scent tells a story worth telling. The best way to hear about new releases first is to join our mailing list. Subscribers get early access before new scents go live to the public.
